Step 4 Reading

A: Play a game: Guess the word by sentences to learn new words.

B: Read the whole text quickly then answer the questions of Ex 1 of Page128.

C: Analyze the text by different ages.

Paragraph 1 Edison was a great inventor. He never gave up.

Paragraph 2--4 Talk about Edison’s childhood.

Explain some key phrases:

Practice reading and try to retell it with the given words.

1).T: We know Edison was a great inventor. But he was in school for only three month.

Why? What did he do when he was 10\12\16\22?

Let the Ss recall the contents of the above questions.

2) Try to retell lesson 26 with the given words.(Slide 2 )

Step 2 Presentation

T: Edison was a great inventor. How about you?

What do you want to be after you leave school? Discuss it.

(Teach: graduate= leave school)

Step 3 Discussion

Part1 of Page 33.

Let the Ss read through the questions and answers.

Then let them work in group asking each other.

Explain: “hope to……/want to…../plan to….” The infinitive is used after them as the object.

Step 4 Read and say

Listen and answer the following questions.

1. What’s wrong?

2. What do they want to do?

Read after the tape.

(Teach : turn down关小声; turn up 开大声; be sorry about sth.)

Point out that the infinitives in Part 2 are used as object complement.

Let the Ss look at Part 3 and find out what are the infinitives used as?

Read and learn: make a strange noise

Read through the questions and the answers

Then let the Ss guess the use of the infinitive.

Make out the use of the infinitives as adverbials

Have the Ss ask and answer in pairs.

Discuss to come up with an idea for an invention

Then write down what they talked about their inventions in English.
