8 Work in pairs.Talk about your lessons.

Now please talk with your partner. Just talk about your lessons. You have many lessons, right? You have art in the morning. You don’t have English at night. Do you like history or not? How many Chinese lessons do you have in a week? Talk like this. You can use the sentences patterns in the following boxes. You can say many other things about your lesson, too. For example, who is your science teacher? Say as many sentences as you can.

I have art at eight o’clock. We have chemistry at half past eleven.

We have Chinese at nine o’clock. I don’t have English in the morning.

We don’t have history in the afternoon. I like maths. I don’t like science.

Unit 2 Lessons start at nine o’clock.

■Warming up

Hi, class! You all go to school every day. Today please tell us something about your school day. For example, I will first talk about my school day. I am Cecilia. I’m thirteen and I go to River School. I get up at half past six in the morning and have breakfast. My school is a little far from my home. I go to school at seven o’clock by bus. Lessons start at eight o’clock. We have four lessons in the morning. My favourite lesson is Chinese. In the break, I go to the playground and play football with my friends. I have lunch in the dining hall at twelve o’clock. I like dumplings. Lessons start in the afternoon at half past two in summer. I have two lessons in the afternoon. I go home at five o’clock in the afternoon. In the evening, I watch TV and have dinner. I do my homework and go to bed at ten o’clock.

Now, please turn to page 44. Tell me something about your school day, OK?

■Reading and vocabulary

1 Read the text and put the pictures in order.

This text is about Alex’s school day. Alex tells us many things about his school day. When does he get up in the morning? When does he go to school? What is his school’s name? Read the text twice. For the first time, Please try to cut(断句)/ the sentences into parts, blacken(涂黑)the predicates, shade(加影)the connectives and underline(划线)the expressions.

Now write all the expressions in your Expression Book.

For the second time, read the text and put the pictures in order.

2 Match the times with the pictures in Activity1.

In Activity 1, there are six pictures. You can match the times here with these pictures. For example, when does Alex go to bed every day? He goes to bed at ten o’clock at night. When does Alex’s classmates play football every day? They play football in the break at eleven o’clock.

picture a →12:30 picture b→10:00 picture c→3:30

picture d→11:00 picture e→ 9:00 picture f→7:30

Now write: in the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening.

10:00 in the morning, 3:30 in the afternoon, 7:30 in the morning, 9:00 in the morning, 11:00 in the morning, 12:30 in the afternoon

3 Check (√) the true sentences for Alex.

The following sentences are not all true. After reading the text, do you know which ones are true? Alex goes to school at half past eight, is it true or false? Does Alex play football at school? No, we learn from the text that Alex doesn’t like football. Alex talks to his friends in the break. When do Alex’s lessons finish every day? Is it at five o’clock, four o’clock or three o’clock? Check (√) the true sentences below.

I have breakfast at 7:00 in the morning.

I go to school at 8:30. (√)

I play football at 11:00.

We have meat and rice, with vegetables or hamburgers at 12:30. (√)

Lessons finish at 3:30. (√)

I do my homework at 10:00 in the evening.

Now correct the false:

I don’t have breakfast at 7:00 in the morning. I have breakfast at 7:30 in the morning.

Not I but they play football at 11:00.

I go to bed at 10:00 in the evening. So I do my homework before 10:00 in the evening.

■Writing and speaking

4 Rewrite the sentences in Activity 3 for you.

In Activity 3, there are six sentences about one’s school life. Now rewrite these sentences for yourself. When do you have breakfast? I have breakfast at 8:00 in the morning. What and when do you have lunch? I have dumplings at 12:15. When do lessons finish every day? Lessons finish at six o’clock.

I have breakfast at 6:30 in the morning. I go to school at 7:00. I play football at 5:00 in the afternoon. We have meat and rice, with vegetables or hamburgers at 12:30. Lessons finish at 6:30 in the afternoon. I do my homework at 8:00 in the evening.

5 Work in pairs. Talk about your school day.

Now, it is time for you to talk about your own school day. What does Alex tell us about his school day in the text? He tells us when he gets up, goes to school, has a break, has lunch, finishes lessons and goes to bed. What other things does he tell us? He doesn’t like football. What about you? He has meat and rice, with vegetables or hamburgers for lunch. What about you? What do you have for lunch? Work with your partner. Say as many sentences as you can. Tell us about your own school day.
