S2: It’s red. It has five yellow stars. One is big, the other four are small.
S1: Where is Canada?

T: Good job! From the map of the world, we also know Canada is north of the U.S.
Step II Presentation
Demonstrate Canada with a map. Ask and answer about it.
T: Where are Jenny and Danny from?
Ss: They are from Canada.
T: What do they speak?
Ss: They speak English.
T: Beijing is the capital city of China. What city is the capital of Canada?
Ss: … (Maybe Ss will give you a Chinese answer.)
T: Ottawa. Ottawa is the capital of Canada. (Have Ss repeat it.)
Step III Discussion
Do you know about Canada? (Explain it to the class.)
Ss discuss in groups: What do you know about Canada? Maybe Ss can’t say anything in English. Tell them Chinese is OK.
Play a beautiful piece of music while Ss are discussing.
Step IV Song
T: The beautiful piece of music is Red River Valley. It’s a folk song of Canada. Let’s appreciate it once again. Let’s come close to Canada together.
Step V Presentation
After listening to the results of the discussion, show some pictures on the screen to introduce the flag of Canada, Niagara Falls and the Rocky Mountains.
T: Look at the flag of Canada. What colour is it?
Ss: It is red and white.
T: Right. It has a leaf. They are Niagara Falls and the Rocky Mountains. They are very famous in the world. Canada is famous for Niagara Falls and the Rocky Mountains.
Let Ss make up sentences with “be famous for”:
Beijing is famous for Tian’anmen Square.

China is famous for the Great Wall.

Step VII Reading
Play the audiotape. Ask Ss to read each sentence aloud with the tape. Then find out the answer: What do they speak?
Ss: They speak English and French. (A kind of language.)
Explanation: In Canada, they speak English and French, because many French people lived inCanada when Canada became a country.
